It is almost summer. Spurred by the thought of wearing shorts in public, I have a new found interest in dieting. Now, here's the dilemma, do I choose a high carb, low fat plan or a low carb, high fat plan….. Some people say fruit is good, and some people say fruit is bad. Some people say to eat your veggies steamed with no butter, and some say to fry your veggies in oil if you want and then go on and slather them with butter….hmmmm.
I asked my doctor what she thought. She said she didn't think it was healthy to avoid any food group, and that I should eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. And exercise. Ok, but what diet should I go on?? Suzanne Somers says you shouldn't avoid any food group either, but she has a lot of rules. You can only eat fruit on an empty stomach and you can't mix this with that.
Now, I slowly started realizing that the one thing all of these plans have in common is that they all have success stories. Each plan has stories and pictures of people exclaiming that the plan has changed their lives. So maybe my doctor is right. If you eat a little bit of everything and burn more calories than you take in, you will eventually lose weight.
Now, let's talk about the exercise. I bought Leslie Sansone's four mile walk tape. Well, it is extremely boring. Marching around in your living room to less than thrilling music is not my idea of a good time. So I bought the Firm. It seems like a wonderful thing, you get strength training and cardio in one short workout. Well, it seems like a lot more strength training than cardio. My self doubt forces me to ask myself if I will really lose weight doing this, and then the couch starts looking really good, and the next thing I know I am sitting down watching TV. Perhaps that is just it. There is my answer. Maybe I am just lazy. They do say, however, that admitting the problem is winning half the problem. I feel much better now. Maybe I will treat myself to a sundae…..well, maybe not.
